Tom Abi Samra is a senior at NYU Abu Dhabi majoring in Literature. His research interests include premodern and modern Arabic literature, Mediterranean studies, and modernity studies. Theoretically, he is interested in affect theory, archive theory, classical Arabic literary theory, deconstruction, and the writings of the Frankfurt School. He is writing his senior thesis about Yūsuf al-Shirbīnī’s Hazz al-quḥūf, a seventeenth-century Arabic text from Ottoman Egypt. His essays and translations have appeared in ArabLit Quarterly, ASAP/J, and Protean Magazine, among others.
